May Calendar

St. Jude Spring Art Gallery - at 6:00pm come to see the wonderful art & activities every class has created. As well each class has painted a painting that will be auctioned off on this night. Bids start at $25.

Mother's Day - we wish all mothers a wonderful Mother's Day. Please see your child's note bag or paper calendar for information about any special Mother's Day activities.

Scholastic Books - the most important skill your child needs for grade one is reading. Students are encouraged to be reading at a beginning grade 1 level. Practicing at home with books your child enjoys is extremely important to strengthen their reading skills.

Welcome to Kindergarten - this night is for parents who have children starting JK at St. Jude's in September.

Spring Pictures - photographers will be here to take pictures for purchase.

Victoria Day - school will be closed. Enjoy a long & restful weekend with your family.

Blue Day - please come to school dressed in blue and bring in something that is blue.

Trip to Kortright Center - we will be going to the Kortright Center to learn about insects & bees. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather as we will be outside most of the day.

Tomorrow

- signed KLP forms
- signed field trip forms & money
- SK graduation picture order forms
- boxes, paper towel rolls, plastic containers etc. for project

Spring Gallery

On May 8th the school will be having it's annual spring gallery where student's art work is displayed.

As well, each class has been hard at work painting a masterpiece on canvas that will be auctioned off during the Spring Gallery. Here is just a small sample of the beautiful paintings the Kindergarten classes have been working on. Each painting is signed on the back by the class who made it.

To see all of the art from all of the grades and/or to purchase the paintings come to the Spring Gallery on Wednesday May 8 at 6:00pm-8:00pm.

Field Trip

Permission forms went home today for our upcoming field trip to the Kortright Center in May where we will be studying bees & insects.

Field trips are an important part of your child's learning. What they learn in the world/through their experiences creates richness in their lives and learning. The more experiences they gather creates more background knowledge they have to use for success in learning & everyday life.

Please fill out the forms and return them as soon as possible. We invite parents to join us in caring for a group of students during this day; but as there is a LOT of walking only parents & guardians who can keep up with a fast pace should join us on this trip.

Earth Week

Come to school tomorrow dressed in green to remind us of the grass, trees and plants that keep our planet healthy!

Wear the colour Blue

Tomorrow is Earth Day!

Remember to wear blue to remind us of how important water is to us!

And if you don't already do so let's try to bring a litter-less lunch to school everyday this week. That means no wrappers or disposable bottles. Reusable containers, water bottles, cutlery & recyclable items are best!

Earth Day

Earth Day is Monday!

So the whole school will be learning about and celebrating our Earth all week long!

Please look at the attached calendar to see the special events happening next week; as well as different activities and topics you can talk to your children about at home.

Forms

If you have received a form for the Kindergarten Language Program please complete the form and return it as soon as possible.

As well, cookie dough orders are due by Friday. Therefore please return your order forms & money by Friday to help raise funds to update our technology in the school. Thank you for your support and continued interest in providing the best for your child.

Kindergarten Language Program

The TCDSB's Kindergarten Language Program is a fantastic program that helps to strengthen students' confidence, verbal communication & social interaction skills.

Spaces are very limited & only eligible junior kindergarten students will be selected for a chance to enter the program. We will be sending home permission forms for these students. Signing & returning the form only allows the KLP team to meet & talk to your child. You will receive a letter later in the year letting you know if your child was accepted into the program at which time you can decide to accept the invitation.

The program will begin in October (when students are in SK) for two half day sessions each week. KLP is an excellent way to build your child's communication skills & increase their confidence which will help them throughout their lives.

Spring

The students have been busy exploring seeds, soil and rain. They have also planted their very own vegetable plant and are watching it grow. In a few weeks (when the plants have grown) we will be learning the different parts of a plant: roots, stem, leaves, flower & seeds/fruit.

Yellow Day!

Tomorrow is yellow day! Come to school dressed in yellow and bring in something that is yellow.

This week the students will be learning:

- how to print the letter Yy, the sound it makes & words that start with Yy
- the names & attributes of two-dimensional shapes (I.e. square, triangle etc.) and three-dimensional shapes (I.e. cylinder, cube etc.)
- new sight words to add to their growing vocabulary
